What it is
Arginine alpha-ketoglutarate, written AAKG, is arginine bonded to alpha-ketoglutarate, a compound from the cell's energy cycle. The 2:1 ratio means two arginine to one AKG.
What it does in Memoclear
The point of the AKG form is behaviour, not action. It dissolves differently and is meant to release arginine more gradually than the base form, so nitric oxide support continues later in the day. AKG itself feeds the energy cycle that brain cells rely on. In Memoclear it sits beside base arginine so the label has a fast component and a slow one.
Where it comes from in food
Arginine comes from the foods above; alpha-ketoglutarate is made inside the body.
What the research says
AAKG has been studied mostly in sports nutrition. Some trials show higher blood arginine and small effects on blood flow; others find little difference from plain arginine. There is almost no research on AAKG specifically for memory or focus.
Who should be careful
The same cautions as L-arginine. Do not stack Memoclear with pre-workout powders that also contain AAKG.
